Arete (pronounced “ah-reh-'tay”) is an ancient Greek word, which means “To be the best you can be”. In its basic sense, Arete means excellence of any kind. In its earliest appearance in Greek this notion of excellence was connected with the fulfillment of purpose: the act of living up to one's full potential.
